The Spoken Word
I was praying one day when I heard the Lord speak directly to my heart. He said,
“Who wrote my word, the book you read that you call the Bible?”
I replied, “That’s easy. You did, Lord.”
He responded, “I have never physically written any word…”
I was shocked.
He continued:
“All the words written were spoken. I never wrote a single word; I had to speak them, otherwise they would have never occurred.”
I was reminded then of the account of Creation, where God brought existence into being through His spoken word:
“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” — Genesis 1:3
He then said to me,
“If I am in you, you need to speak with my words—words of life, not death. I alone have the power of words that bring forth life.”
Solomon reminds us of this exact principle in Scripture:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” — Proverbs 18:21
Jesus also emphasized the spiritual weight behind the words He spoke:
“The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” — John 6:63
I then reflected on how negative I had been and how much death was in my words. Scripture instructs us on how we should use our speech:
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” — Ephesians 4:29
Brothers and sisters, if we say we are His disciples and followers of Jesus Christ, we must change the way we speak. We need to speak as He did, be filled with His Spirit, and speak life.
